NEW NEWS FOR: Tuesday, February 21, 2012 "B-Day"
BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS: Student Volunteers are needed for the Used Book
Sale this weekend both Friday 2/24 & Sat. 2/25.
Sign ups are in the main office.

FOOTBALL: There will be a meeting for any boy interested in playing
Football next year.
The meeting will be held next Thursday, February 23, at 2:30 in the
cafeteria LGI.
All boys in grades 9-11 should attend the meeting.

BASEBALL: There will be a meeting on Tues, Feb 28 at 3:00 pm for all
prospective baseball players.
The meeting is in the upstairs LGI and will last about an hour. Please
attend.

Attention Next Years Dual Enrollment Students With Immaculata
Students who signed up to take an Immaculata University "Dual Enrollment"
course next year must also fill out an application for Dual Enrollment.
Applications can be picked up and turned back into the Counseling Center.

SPRING SPORT ATHLETES
A reminder from the athletic office: all athletes who are trying out for
spring sports on March 5 must have a completed PIAA form, pages 1-4 on
file with the athletic office. If you played a fall or winter sport and
were not injured, you only need page 5 completed by you and
your parents. Please drop them off in the athletic office, room 140.

BOOK SALE:
Attention all students. The Used Book Sale Committee could use your
help!! We are looking for volunteers to help sort / price / and pack
books on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons after school from
2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Sign up in the school office or just report to room
A136 to be assigned a job. We have a lot of books to process before the
sale on February 24th and 25th. Hope to see you there!!

NHS COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS= AFTER PROM PHONE-A-THON
2/23 & 3/2 and 3/9
National Honor Society Community Services Hours may be earned at the After
Prom Phone-A-Thon on Monday evening February 23rd, March 2nd and March 9th
from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm. Students will be calling High School parents
from the High School office.

This is also open to any student wanting to lend a hand in the After-Prom
Fundraising Task. All students are welcome to participate. Sign up

GETT is a day long, fun, hands-on informational event for middle and high
school girls, in grades 6-12 in the Delaware Valley, their parents, and
educators. GETT features the opportunity for students to interact with
successful women in technology. Sessions are Saturday, March 24, 2012

RUN FOR OUR SONS 5 K
Sat 4/21
The 3rd Annual Run for our Sons Unionville 5K run, one-mile fun walk and
family fun day will take place on Sat. April 21st, 2012 at Patton Middle
School. The event is in honor of Elliott and Henry Johnson, sons of Mrs.
Johnson, a Spanish teacher here at UHS. Elliott and Henry have Duchenne
muscular dystrophy, a fatal muscle wasting disease. Few young men with
Duchenne survive beyond age 30. You can make a difference in the lives of
Elliott and Henry and all boys and young men living with this debilitating
disease by showing your support. Register, get together with your friends
and make a team. Set a fundraising goal. Volunteer your time. Do what
you can. What if it took only one person to make a difference? What if
it was you? Registration is open at www.parentprojectmd.org/unionville.
They are also forms in the main office. All proceeds benefit Parent
Project Muscular Dystrophy, the largest nonprofit organization in the
United States focused entirely on Duchenne.

All students volunteering to work at the Blood Drive MUST MUST MUST attend
a mandatory training session on Thursday morning (2/16) at 7:15am in the
Old LGI. If you don't attend, the Red Cross will not permit you to
volunteer. Please see the spreadsheet outside room 132 to see if you made
the volunteer cut.

There will be a meeting on Tues, Feb 28 at 3:00 pm for all prospective

The Counseling Center is once again sponsoring a College Planning Night.
It will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012, 7-9PM. More details will

seniors please note that a representative will be available to discuss

SUPPORT THE BLOOD DRIVE.....See details......

UHS will host its Annual Blood Drive to support the American Red Cross on
Wednesday, February 22nd from 7:30am - 2pm. Students may also sign up in
room 132 (AT room) before Homeroom, between classes, or after school.
Students who will be at least 16 years old on the day of the Blood Drive
may donate with parent consent. Students who will be at least 17 years
old do not need parent consent.

Blood Drive t-shirts that support the B+ Foundation are available for
pre-order during lunch or in room 132. T-shirts are $10 and 100% of the
proceeds go to support kids fighting cancer.
Become a donor. Save a life.

UHS will host its Annual Blood Drive to support the American Red Cross on
Wednesday, February 22nd from 7:30am - 2pm. We will have donor sign ups
during all 3 lunches on Tuesday 2/7, Wednesday 2/8, and Thursday 2/9.
Students may also sign up in room 132 (AT room) before Homeroom, between
classes, or after school. Students who will be at least 16 years old on
the day of the Blood Drive may donate with parent consent. Students who
will be at least 17 years old do not need parent consent.

NHS COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS= AFTER PROM PHONE-A-THON
National Honor Society Community Services Hours may be earned at the After
Prom Phone-A-Thon on Monday evening February 23rd, March 2nd and March 9th
from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm. Students will be calling High School parents
from the High School office.

This is also open to any student wanting to lend a hand in the After-Prom
Fundraising Task. All students are welcome to participate. Sign up
sheets are in the main office.

RUN FOR OUR SONS 5 K
The 3rd Annual Run for our Sons Unionville 5K run, one-mile fun walk and
family fun day will take place on Sat. April 21st, 2012 at Patton Middle
School. The event is in honor of Elliott and Henry Johnson, sons of Mrs.
Johnson, a Spanish teacher here at UHS. Elliott and Henry have Duchenne
muscular dystrophy, a fatal muscle wasting disease. Few young men with
Duchenne survive beyond age 30. You can make a difference in the lives of
Elliott and Henry and all boys and young men living with this debilitating
disease by showing your support. Register, get together with your friends
and make a team. Set a fundraising goal. Volunteer your time. Do what
you can. What if it took only one person to make a difference? What if
it was you? Registration is open at www.parentprojectmd.org/unionville.
They are also forms in the main office. All proceeds benefit Parent
Project Muscular Dystrophy, the largest nonprofit organization in the
United States focused entirely on Duchenne.

University are co-sponsoring a one-day Engineering Mini-Camp for girls in
grades 9-12. The camp, to be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 on Widener
University's Chester campus, will bring girls who have an interest and/or
ability in science/math/technology together with practicing women
engineers and female engineering students. The camp is offered free of
cost. Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 150 girls, on a first-come
basis.

28JAN -VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 2012 Used Book Sale
The 2012 Used Book Collection is scheduled for Saturday, January 28th
(snow date - Saturday, February 4th).
Drivers are needed to collect donated books from the school district
neighborhoods. Neighborhood routes and sign up sheets are located in the
Main Office. Hours are flexible. Routes will be assigned on a first come
first serve basis. Earn Community Service Hours and raise funds for UHS
at the same time.

USED BOOK SALE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SORT BOOKS: FULFILL YOUR COMMUNITY
SERVICE HOURS
The Used Book Sale needs many volunteers to sort books beginning on
January 28 and throughout the month of February. The first sorting day
will be on Saturday January 28 and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
after school as well as some Saturdays leading up to the actual Book Sale
days at the end of February. This is a great way to fulfill community
service hours. Sign up sheets for the first week of sorting days are
posted in the main office or you can go to the website,
www.uhsbooksale.org to sign up online. Be sure to sign up in advance to
guarantee that you get the hours!!

their driving permit held until the physical is turned in. See Mrs.

The first semester expires on 1/20 and so does your parking permit.
Please turn in your current parking pass between 1/17-20 if you want to be
eligible for a second semester permit. Any seniors who wish to obtain a
pass for the first time, need to complete the parking application and turn
it in to Mrs. Drumheller on or before Jan 20. All students who receive a
parking permit for the second semester will need to bring $100.00 cash or
check to the main office to be able to pick up the pass.

University are co-sponsoring a one-day Engineering Mini-Camp for girls in
grades 9-12. The camp, to be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 on Widener
University's Chester campus, will bring girls who have an interest and/or
ability in science/math/technology together with practicing women
engineers and female engineering students. The camp is offered free of
cost. Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 150 girls, on a first-come

QUEBEC TRAVELERS MEETING
The second mandatory meeting for Quebec travelers is this Friday in room
107 from 2:30 - 3:00 pm. contact Mme. Liska for questions.

NHS VOLUNTEER HOURS DUE.....
Second marking period volunteer hours for NHS MUST be turned in AND
appropriately filed in room 132 NO LATER THAN Friday, January 20th.
Students who worked the UE Holiday Workshop have letters waiting for them
in the red bin in 132. If you want to receive credit for your volunteer
service, please make sure you follow procedures. Unfiled hours or late
submissions will not count toward required hours. Please see Ms. Dickmann
in room 132 if you have any questions.

HEIFER INT. BAKE SALE THURSDAY / FRIDAY THIS WEEK
There will be donuts, orange juice, muffins, etc.... Be there! 7:10 am -
Homeroom...

SENIOR STUDENT DRIVERS: The first semester expires on 1/20 and so does
your parking permit. Please turn in your current parking pass between
1/17-20 if you want to be eligible for a second semester permit.

Any seniors who wish to obtain a pass for the first time, need to complete
the parking application and turn it in to Mrs. Drumheller on or before Jan
20.

All students who receive a parking permit for the second semester will
need to bring $100.00 cash or check to the main office to be able to pick
up the pass.

SKI TRIP
Attention Skiers & Snowboarders: The next ski trip will be Sunday, January
22, to Blue Mountain. Sign-up forms are due by this Friday, and are
available in the Main Office. All students and staff are welcome.

Boys VOLLEYBALL
Any boys interesting in playing volleyball should come out to the open
gyms on Mondays and Wednesdays in January and February, 8:30PM - 10:00PM,
in the UHS gym. Come at least one night and see the power volleyball style
that the boys play. Starts on January 4, 2012.

looking for a few clubs to sell baked goods or pretzels before and during

Course selection night is scheduled for Monday, February 6, 2012. A
letter was distributed to 9th, 10th and 11th grade students in homeroom
last Friday. Letters were also mailed to parents of current 8th graders.
A copy of the letter is also posted on the UHS website.

NEW POST 10JAN: PSSAs
Farther off into the future -- PSSAs are scheduled to be taken by all
11th graders at UHS on 3/20-22 (reading and math), 4/19-20 (writing) and
4/26-27 (science). Additional details regarding these testing dates will

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
28JAN -VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 2012 Used Book Sale
The 2012 Used Book Collection is scheduled for Saturday, January 28th
(snow date - Saturday, February 4th).
Drivers are needed to collect donated books from the school district
neighborhoods. Neighborhood routes and sign up sheets are located in the
Main Office. Hours are flexible. Routes will be assigned on a first come
first serve basis. Earn Community Service Hours and raise funds for UHS
at the same time.

UHS FASHION SHOW STUDENT DESIGN CHALLENGE This year during the UHS Fashion
Show there will be a student design
challenge. The challenge is to create an outfit for $20 or less with
clothing purchased at Goodwill, thrift shops, etc. Altering the clothing
is encouraged and sewing is not required. Students may use safety pins,
glue, duct tape, etc. Materials other than fabrics may be used. The
outfits will be modeled during the Fashion show on January 21, 2012.
Students may model their own creation or have a friend model for them.

NEW POST 5JAN -VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The 2012 Used Book Collection is scheduled for Saturday, January 28th
(snow date - Saturday, February 4th).
Drivers are needed to collect donated books from the school district
neighborhoods. Neighborhood routes and sign up sheets are located in the
Main Office. Hours are flexible. Routes will be assigned on a first come
first serve basis. Earn Community Service Hours and raise funds for UHS
at the same time.

NEW POST 5JAN - BOYS TENNIS MEETING SCHEDULED
There will be a meeting for all returning varsity boys tennis players on
Thursday, January 12, in the Faculty Dining room from 2:30 until 3:15.

Patton MS has a critical need for volunteers Friday after school AND all
day Saturday to help with a Lego Robotics Tournament. No Special skills
are needed.

NEW POST 5JAN- Boys VOLLEYBALL
Any boys interesting in playing volleyball should come out to the open
gyms on Mondays and Wednesdays in January and February, 8:30PM - 10:00PM,
in the UHS gym. Come at least one night and see the power volleyball style
that the boys play. Starts on January 4, 2012.

NEW POST 5JAN -ATTENTION GIRLS INTERESTED IN ENGINEERING!
The Philadelphia Section of the Society of Women Engineers and Widener
University are co-sponsoring a one-day Engineering Mini-Camp for girls in
grades 9-12. The camp, to be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 on Widener
University's Chester campus, will bring girls who have an interest and/or
ability in science/math/technology together with practicing women
engineers and female engineering students. The camp is offered free of
cost. Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 150 girls, on a first-come
basis.

Week of 1/3 GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT- For the next several days, our UHS
cafeteria will be participating in a formal Cafeteria Audit conducted by
the Pennsylvania Dept of Education. During all three lunches, you may see
inspectors performing various audit tasks. Some of the auditors will be
selecting random students and asking a variety of questions. If you are
selected to be a part of this audit, please be certain to cooperate with
the auditors and answer their questions as honestly and completely as
possible. Thanks so much!

JAN 5th -Shiv Bery (former UHS Student), who attends Washington University
in St. Louis, will be here on January 5th at 1:30 to visit with any
students who have interest in the University. Please stop by the
counseling center and pick up a pass if interested in speaking with Shiv.

UHS FASHION SHOW STUDENT DESIGN CHALLENGE This year during the UHS Fashion
Show there will be a student design
challenge. The challenge is to create an outfit for $20 or less with
clothing purchased at Goodwill, thrift shops, etc. Altering the clothing
is encouraged and sewing is not required. Students may use safety pins,
glue, duct tape, etc. Materials other than fabrics may be used. The
outfits will be modeled during the Fashion show on January 21, 2012.
Students may model their own creation or have a friend model for them.

UHS alumni will be returning to UHS during all 3 lunches to meet and greet
current students. The UHS alumni will be representing their college and
any interested student is welcome to attend. The UHS alumni will be
available to entertain your questions and interest in the college, so
please stop by the cafeteria LGI during your lunch on the 23rd, if you are
interested in getting a first hand perspective on college life.

12/23 MALE MODELS
Boys wishing to model in the January Fashion Show should get your forms in
to the main office! No more forms will be accepted after Friday, December
23, 2011.

Attention Skiers and Snowboarders: The Sign-up forms for our 3 trips this

Help support Animal Rights Club's annual " Collar Drive ": Please help us
collect New or gently used Collars, Bones, Toys, Towels, Treats and
Blankets to donate to La Mancha Animal Rescue and other community
shelters ! Decorated donation boxes located outside the main office,
B-Floor Lobby and A-Floor Lobby ! Please help us remember our abandoned
or lost animals with a new treat

The Senior Class Picture will be taken on Thursday, December 22nd at 8:00
am in the gym. You will be receiving an order envelope the day before
"The Big Picture" is to be taken. You can also order prints on the

days following the date of the picture.
